  1. Laser printers have a lower cost per copy than inkjet printers, if you plan to print enough copies to recover the cost of the printer. That number is a function of how much you would pay for each. Typically, a laser printer is cheaper per copy if you plan to print more than 3,000 pages in the lifetime of your printer.
  2. Ask friends about their printers and/or come to a Q&A session.
  3. The very inexpensive printers are inkjets - the vendors make their money on ink, not on the machines. Some ink is subject to smearing when moist. Longevity of ink varies widely, from 5 years to 50 years, depending on storage conditions.
  4. The more expensive printers are laser printers, which use dry toner instead of ink. Toner barely smears when moist, and typically last far more years than ink.
